The first ASPH Quality Improvement (QI) Event was held on Wednesday, 29th June 2016 titled “Supporting a Culture of Curiosity and Creativity”. A big thank you to everyone who came and participated.
The purpose of the event was to celebrate some of the great QI work that has been undertaken in the Trust in the last year, but also to inspire others and share learning as Ashford and St Peter’s (ASPH) continues on our QI journey.
We started the day with a really encouraging and passionate introduction from our Chief Executive, Suzanne Rankin. Suzanne described some of the progress that has been made from defining the #RightCulture for ASPH to helping to grow a culture of curiosity and creativity and what this can mean for patients and staff.
Suzanne also encouraged all the ASPH teams to get involved in QI; to ‘do something you’re passionate about and do something for a purpose’.
We were joined on the day by colleagues from other organisations, including our Clinical Commissioning Group and NHS Improvement. Our friends at NHS Improvement created a short video about the day and you can see it below. (If the video below doesn’t play, click here)
Throughout the day we heard from many members of ASPH staff about the specific QI projects they have led; from junior doctors, consultants, nurses, therapists and other professionals. Thanks to everyone who presented, but more importantly for leading their QI projects.
Dr Asim Nayeem from the Emergency Department also presented about his own QI journey and the development of the ED Assembly; an initiative that has already started to spread through the Trust and is being adopted in other areas.
We were fortunate to be joined by two external speakers – Rebecca Joyce, Service Improvement Director at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and Dr Imran Qureshi, the founder or DAPS (Doctors Advancing Patient Safety), both of whom gave inspiring and interesting presentations.
We also received a personal message of encouragement and congratulations from Professor Don Berwick, President Emeritus and Senior Fellow at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and you can see it below. (If the video doesn’t play, click here)
Poster competition
We were delighted to receive so many fantastic posters from members of the ASPH team, show-casing their QI projects. The poster competition was won by Foundation Year 1 Doctor, Kiran Devgun for her work on the ‘Junior Doctor Guidelines Smartphone App’ (below).
Well done to everyone who submitted a poster and for your great QI work.
